Spiritual Catnip?
The name came from Russ, during our GardenOfFriends.com meeting, probably September 21, 2026.
Claude.ai boosted my confidence in yet another domain name:
It’s a lovely phrase. Catnip works on a cat without any effort or argument: one sniff and the animal goes blissful, playful, rolling around, briefly released from its usual wariness. “Spiritual catnip” would be whatever does that to the soul, something that draws you in irresistibly and loosens you into joy or presence without your having to try.
It can mean a few different things depending on the tone.
Sincere and appreciative: the things that reliably light up your spirit. For one person it’s music: a cello line that stops time, or a hymn that cracks something open. For another it’s silence and stillness, a sunrise walk, a certain poet (Rumi and Hafiz get called this a lot), a teacher whose words make everything feel suddenly simple, or pointing-style nondual teachings that trigger a sense of “oh, this.” Beauty, wonder, awe, and unconditional love all qualify. They draw you home without persuasion.
Gently critical: the phrase is sometimes used with a raised eyebrow, for teachings or experiences that give a spiritual high but not much transformation. Examples include retreat highs, blissful states people chase, clever paradoxes, “you’re already enlightened” messages, or content that feels profound and is consumed compulsively. It’s catnip in the sense that the cat gets a buzz for ten minutes and then walks away unchanged. Seekers can get hooked on the flavor of awakening rather than the thing itself.
Playful: simply “stuff I can’t resist,” like a used bookstore’s philosophy section, a good conversation about consciousness at 11pm, or a candlelit chapel.
If you’re thinking of using it somewhere, like a title, a talk, or a line in writing, the ambiguity is useful. You could play both sides: what draws us irresistibly, and whether we’re being fed or just entertained. Where did you come across it?

Alone it is almost impossible to see how we create our own unhappiness, because we are so deeply invested in our me-voice in our me-bubble.
Alone we cannot see our biases, and we easily get intimidated by thoughts and feelings.
